Updates and Exploration

I never expected that posting those cards on Facebook would get such an extreme response.  Thanks to a former college classmate in NYC, an article was written on TheBlaze: click here I was contacted by two Minneapolis television news stations for a story, and somehow HuffPost got ahold of it too: click here Of course TheBlaze was smart enough to use a beautiful photo from my photobooth enthusiast days, so since we live in a world of COMPLETE PERVERTS, the story competed pretty well with stories about school and movie theater shootings.  But even beyond any purposeful or accidental marketing tactics, there were plenty of people who really just appreciated the history of it all and even had their own neat discovery stories to share.  Lots of strangers even got involved with researching Mayme and came up with some really good information, such as:

Mayme married Fritz E Carlbom on 11 May 1910 in Bashfield, Hennepin, Minnesota and her parents August and Frances lived in Delano.  That corresponds to the postcards going to Delano in 1907 and 1910, then being brought to her home with Fritz when it was built in 1910. Mayme had a daughter, Frances Mary Carlbom (4 Dec 1911 - 1 May 1996) and a son Howard C. (27 Jun 1913 - & Jan 1996).  Thanks, Intense Guy!

As my brother said in response to all of this, "If you never need anything found, just put the collective internet on it."

The day the article came out, Anders, the owner of Mayme's Ancestry.com family tree (who lives in Sweden) contacted me saying he had been alerted about this story several times that day.  He gave me the following family information, and the contact info for Mayme's two grandchildren.

Mayme Berneck and Fritz Emanuel Carlbom had two children, who were born in Minneapolis and both died in Stockton, CA:

Frances Mary Carlbom (1911-1996), who was never married.
Howard Clinton Carlbom (1913-1996), who was married to Clarice Emma Birkholz (1915-2009).

Howard and his wife had two children, who live in Stockton California (still living - 64 and 66 years old).

Anders also included a brief summary of how he got involved with Mayme's family tree.  In short, Mayme's grandchildren have a third cousin living in Prior Lake, MN who wants to get in touch with his unknown relatives.  So Anders requested that if I do get in touch with the grandchildren to let them know about the third cousin so they can connect.  Very interesting!

I definitely do intend to contact the grandchildren and let them know of the discovery.  If you're interested in reading updates about this, want to follow my house remodeling, want to know what those old stamps are worth, want to hear other weird things that happen to me on a daily basis, or just want to be a huge PERV, follow me twitter.com/amandajreddy.  I'll link you to any updates and progress from there.

Last, but not least, I did do a bit more exploring at the house tonight.  There are some very unique pieces shoved in some very old and unique rooms down the basement.  I'd love to put the collective internet on this one and figure out what and how old this stuff is.  The desk is especially interesting to me because it seems to be for some type of specific trade.  When my brother was searching my house address at the Hennepin County Public Library, he came upon a record that listed Fritz (Mayme's husband) at the address, with his career as "printer." Could this be something he used?  Or am I way off even on the age of it?

Okay, collective internet......on your mark...get set.....GO!
This post is brought to you by the iPhone 4S.
Oh, what did you say? The 4S isn't cool anymore?

It was going to be brought to you by cheap, juvenile Ikea lamp, but I couldn't find an outlet.
What are these rings used for?
Metal tweezers
Does anyone know what this is?  It was hanging from the ceiling.  Naturally I thought it was a murder tool.  Is it some sort of fire stoker?
Murder tool.

Old cabinet in another basement room.
Who wants to rip apart this newel post with me? Treasure!
Here is the exterior of the house for those who are wondering.  Sorry it's such weird quality photo - I took it in the dark.  The house needs some work on the outside, but I'll have to wait until spring.  But this gives you architectural history buffs something to think about.
Lastly, more remnants of (newer) past residents.  Sigh, I feel so close to them when I find things like this.  Should I frame this too?

 Don't forget to follow me!
